Ashok Dham Temple, located in Lakhisarai, Bihar, is a revered shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva and is centred around the sacred Indradamneshwar Mahadev Shivling.
According to local tradition, the story of Ashok Dham began on 7 April 1977, when a young boy named Ashok, who used to graze cattle in the area, discovered a massive Shivling while playing Gilli-danda. When he tried to lift or remove the Shivling from the ground, he found that it could not be moved even slightly. The sacred discovery soon became a matter of deep faith among the local people.
A temple was subsequently established at the same sacred spot, and the shrine came to be known as Ashok Dham, after the boy who is traditionally credited with discovering the Shivling. The temple is also known as Indradamneshwar Mahadev Temple.
The present temple complex was later reconstructed, with the reconstruction inaugurated by the Shankaracharya of Jagannath Puri on 11 February 1993.
The temple becomes especially vibrant during Maha Shivratri and the holy month of Shravan, when devotees gather in large numbers for darshan and worship of Lord Shiva. The shrine is also known for traditional ceremonies such as Mundan Sanskar.
Today, Ashok Dham stands as an important centre of Shaiva devotion and Sanatan spiritual heritage in Bihar, where a remarkable local discovery has evolved into a sacred pilgrimage tradition.
Puja & Darshan
Devotees can have darshan of Lord Shiva and offer traditional prayers at Ashok Dham Temple. Jal Abhishek, Bilva Patra, flowers, and other offerings are made according to temple traditions.
The temple is particularly visited during Maha Shivratri, Shravan, Mondays, and other auspicious occasions dedicated to Lord Shiva.

By Train: Lakhisarai Junction is the nearest major railway station. Local auto-rickshaws, e-rickshaws, and taxis are available for the onward journey.
By Air: Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport, Patna is the nearest major airport. Visitors can continue their journey by road or rail.
